Doug Waechter spent four of his major league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, his hometown team. Over his time in the bigs, Waechter won 18 games. In his first start at Tropicana Field, Waechter threw a two-hit shutout against Seattle. He joins GarySheltonsports.com weekly to answer your questions about major league baseball. Pitchers and catchers have just begun working out in Port Charlotte. Was this a time of year you anticipated when you played? Or did you find spring training a drudgery?

Are you kidding me? Of course I looked forward to spring training! Especially the first day, because that was the lowest my ERA was gonna be all year!

Enjoyable read – especially the Baldelli and Montoya piece. Looking forward to visting the practice fields down at Port Charlotte early next week so I can get to see and learn the new players. I’m pessimistic about the season, but what doesn’t my opinion matter?
