Any thoughts considering Niners' linebacker Chris Borland's early retirement.

Robert McDowell

My first thought is that it's amazing more athletes don't do it. It's a tough way to make a living.

No one wants to feel sorry for a football player. Their lawsuits over concussions have received little sympathy

Speaking of Warrick Dunn – he visited my unit in Afghanistan and he was a Falcon at the time, but it was such a great experience to see him and talk to him for a few minutes that it actually lifted my morale during the last half of my deployment. I still regard him as one of my favorite NFL players from the past.

Mine, too. I had a young cousin once who told me how much he loved Michael Vick when Vick was with the Falcons. Mind you, this was before the dog-lightning news. I remember telling him that if he really wanted a role model, he should pull for Dunn, not Vick. Best thing I ever said.
