As a freelance sportswriter now, how in the world do you cover so many area teams all at once? I've heard your questions in the background in the locker rooms interviews with the head coaches and I believe with players.  I know you're attending the games. But do you cover long distance events (i.e. road trips) by watching on the HDTV like us or are you traveling all over the country with these Bay Area teams? How do you do it and maintain your sanity?

Who says I have maintained my sanity? I lost that long ago, just before I became Batman.

No, I don't travel much these days. I'd like to, but so far, there seems to

I may have mis-heard or mis-read regarding the Superbowl, but what I remember reading were calls for the Glazers’ to front the money for a new video display and other stadium improvements out of their pockets to make RJ more enticing to the NFL. If the city or a “fund” pays for that to land the Superbowl, I can see the Glazers supporting the cause! Nope, doesn’t matter to me, if we get the Superbowl – I avoid Tampa and the beaches for a couple of weeks is all.

Great column on your Mom, Gary.

I misunderstood. I don’t know who is fronting the cash and being reimbursed. I do know the hosting city is ultimately responsible.

Hi Gary,

You state:
“NFL owners make a huge profit with ticket markups. The league allows this if they’re sold as travel packages.

I think if an NFL owner made a profit to host a Super Bowl, you’d have 32 contenders every year. It’s prestige, it’s value of their own team and its stadium, it’s whatever slice of the pie you can get from the city.”

These two paragraphs appear to contradict each other. Can you please clarify?

Thanks.

Owners make a profit off tickets. They do not get an extra cut because the game is in their stadium.

Touching story about your trip to Dallas. Thanks for sharing it.

Congrats to the Bolt for their Eastern Conference Championship. It has been an enjoyable playoffs for a hockey neophyte like myself to watch. I wasn’t here in 2004 for the experience – so this has been special.
