Ask Gary: Is reporting a story harder these days?

Is it easier or harder to be a sports journalist nowadays in the internet/google/twitter age than "back in the day" before these phenomena were around?

I think it's harder all the time for a legitimate journalist. There is less access. There is less time. There are more folks from more outlets present. It means that the writers get to know the athletes less all the time, and the loser is the reader. Time was, there were the two newspapers and maybe a couple from out-of-town. Now, there are national websites. There are bloggers who are never at One Buc Camp; what insights they have to offer beats me.

There is one guy from a national outlet who doesn't even live in the United States and yet
