How old do you have to be before you can be an ace?

How many hitters have to walk away shaking their heads? How many curve balls have to snap by them? How many times do you  have to walk away in victory?

With the Tampa Bay Rays and pitcher Tyler Glasnow, all questions seem pertinent so far. On a staff with Cy Young winner Blake Snell and free agent Charlie Morton, Glasnow continues to shine.

On Friday night, he snuffed the Baltimore Orioles, winning 7-0 in a game in which he pitched seven innings and allowed just three hits. Glasnow is the reigning  AL pitcher of the month, and he seems not to have noticed that teh calendar has changed.

Pham had three hits for the Rays./CHUCK MULLER

It was Glasnow's third start of the season in which has not given up a run. He has a 1.47 ERA.

“I just felt good from the  start," Glasnow said. "I had all three pitches working. I just stayed on the attack. I tried to stay locked in. Whenever you feel yourself not so locked in, that’s when it’s important to get back in and focus. I’m just going to continue to put my head down and keep working.  just don’t ever get content and stay locked in."

Glasnow, who was 1-5 with the Rays last year, struck out eight.  He has 46 on the season.

Rays starters lead the majors with a 2.60 ERA. The starters have allowed 3 runs or fewer in 28 of 31 games and two runs or fewer in 25 of 31 games.

"He had the  consistency that he’s had all season," Rays' manager Kevin Cash said. "He just picked up right where he left off from that first month. He was tremendous for us.  His first two innings of work were pretty electric stuff. Being able to land the breaking ball, the fastball. He’s on a really good run. It’s impressive. It’s fun to sit and watch him.”

“It doesn’t look like very much fun stepping in the batter’s box against him right now.  He continues to impress. It’s very tough to do what he’s done. I don’t think any of us want to get in his way, though.?

The Rays offense, which has struggled in the last few games, broke loose with 12 hits. Tommy Pham had three and  Brandon Lowe, Avi Garcia and Willie Adames all had two. Lowe and Pham had five hits at the top of the order.

Mike Zunino broke open the game with a three-run homer in the fourth.

The Rays send Yonny Chirinos (4-0) to the mound today against Dylan Bundy (0-4). The game begins at 7:05 p.m. at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
