Friday, 2 a.m.

If you want, you can feel good for C.J. Cron. After all, Cron returned to his old home to face the Angels, his former team, and had a big night.

If you want, you can feel good for Christian Arroyo. After all, Arroyo made his debut for the Tampa Bay Rays, and had a big night.

But if you follow the Rays, there is no doubt whose performance you liked the best.

Why, hello there, Chris Archer.

Archer, one of the season's biggest underachievers, was impressive in a 7-1 victory over the Angels Thursday night. He pitched 6 2/3 innings of two hit, shutout baseball for his third victory of the season. Archer, who has never won more than 12 in a season (four years ago), was in command for most of the night.

“He made pitches," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "You’re going to have to wiggle out of jams when you're facing a lineup like this."

Johnny Field had three hits for the Rays, including a two-run homer. Cron had two hits (and his 11th homer). Also with two hits were Brad Miller, Daniel Robertson, and Arroyo. Denard Span also hit a home run.

The Rays face Anaheim again today when Blake Snell pitches against Nick Tropeano. The game begins at 10:07 p.m. Eastern Time.
